What are CEFR levels?
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is a standardized guideline for measuring language skills. It has six levels, from A1 (Beginner), where learners can understand and use basic phrases and expressions, to C2 (Proficient), where learners can express themselves fluently and accurately.
Brazilian and European Portuguese
Our Portuguese course is based on Brazilian Portuguese, with speakers from across Brazil, so you'll hear a good range of accents as you learn.
We don't currently offer a European Portuguese course. That said, Brazilian and European Portuguese are mutually intelligible, so you'll still be able to communicate effectively with speakers from Portugal.
You can also check out our article on differences between Portuguese in Brazil and in Portugal.
Mexican and European Spanish
We offer 2 Spanish courses - one focused on European Spanish and one on Mexican Spanish - so you can choose the variety that best fits your goals. Both courses include speakers from multiple Spanish-speaking countries, giving you exposure to a wide range of accents.
The 2 varieties differ in some areas of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling, but European and Latin American Spanish are fully mutually intelligible.
Please note that Mexican Spanish is only available if American English is set as your display language but you can change it anytime.
