We want you to interact with our product, see how our lessons are structured, and view our course topics before you sign up for a Babbel subscription.

Why isn’t Babbel free?
We know that it can be difficult to want to pay for something when there’s a free alternative. For Babbel, charging a fee to access our learning content is as much about our company values as it is about our bottom line. Here’s why:
Our courses are crafted by people, not machines
At Babbel, our experts made a conscious decision to tailor courses to people who speak your native language. (An English speaker learning French, for example, will need a different approach than a Spanish speaker learning French.)
Before joining Babbel, our experts were linguists, teachers, instructional designers, editors, and researchers. These experts work in our Didactics department (for any curious readers, didactics is the science of teaching), where all 150 of them get together to make our over 100,000 hours of learning content and build upon our Babbel Method. They use educational best practices and a rigorous quality control process to ensure our courses are effective. When you pay for a Babbel subscription, you’re paying for their expertise.
Ads don’t help you learn
When you learn with Babbel, the focus is on learning, not on viewing ads.
We strongly believe that when you learn a language, your focus should be on remembering and using what you’ve learned. Advertising disrupts your focus and prevents you from learning most effectively so that’s why Babbel doesn’t have ads.
We don’t sell your data
Our goal is to help you speak a language. For that reason, we never sell your data to third parties, and we only keep what’s necessary to track your learning progress. Your data belongs to you.
