Yes! If you have the Babbel app downloaded on an iOS or Android device, you can absolutely use Babbel without an internet connection. In fact, we encourage learning offline so you can learn anywhere, anytime and really make language learning a habit.
Note: Offline mode is only available in the app, and therefore isn’t available on desktop. If you still need to download the Babbel app onto your mobile device, download it here.
How to download individual lessons
- Open the Babbel app
- Tap on Explore in the bottom navigation bar
- Select Courses and choose a course and lesson from the menu
- Tap on the download icon in the lower right-hand corner of the lesson card
- You’ll know it’s downloaded once the grey arrow on the right-hand side turns into a checkmark
Now you’re free to download as many lessons as you want. Just remember to download the items you want to work on before going offline!
Tip: To download a whole course, just tap on the arrow icon at the top-right of the lessons list.
How to automatically download lessons
If you want to have your next lessons and review sessions ready to go, we recommend allowing the Babbel app to automatically download items. Here’s how to enable this feature:
iOS
- Open the Babbel app
- Tap on Profile
, then the Settings wheel
- Scroll down to the Downloads section
- Tap on Automatic downloads
- Choose between downloading only on Wi-Fi or on cellular data and Wi-Fi
Android
- Open the Babbel app
- Tap on Profile
, then the Settings wheel
- Tap on Settings
- Scroll down to the Downloads section
- Tap on Automatic downloads
To conserve your mobile data, we recommend selecting Automatic downloads over Download using cellular data. You’ll be able to see which lessons are downloaded by the little checkmark in the lower left-hand corner of the lesson card. In Review, the app will tell you how many sessions are available offline just under the Review now button.
Note: Be aware that updating your operating system or the Babbel app will temporarily remove any previously downloaded items. However, all of your progress will still be there.
