How do I type an apostrophe or special character?

Many European languages use letters with diacritical marks, such as the umlaut in German, the cedilla and circumflex in French, and the tilde mark in Spanish. There will also be answers which require you to type punctuation during a lesson.  

On the Babbel Keyboard (Android, iPhone):

To type a diacritical mark (such as an accent mark or umlaut) on the Babbel keyboard, you can tap and hold on the base key to show more options. For example, hold down on the A-key for Ä or Á. 

To type a symbol such as an apostrophe or hyphen, you will find these by holding the comma key at the bottom left of your keyboard. This will open a keyboard of numbers, punctuation marks, and special characters.

 

On the iOS System Keyboard (iPad):

First, you will need to make sure that you have added your learning language to the iPad System Keyboard and chosen it from the list of available keyboards when holding globe the key at the bottom of the keyboard.

To type a diacritical mark (such as an accent mark or umlaut) on the iPad System Keyboard, you can tap and hold on the base key to show more options. For example, hold down on the A-key for Ä or Á. Some languages may also have a dedicated key on the main keyboard.

To type a symbol such as an apostrophe or hyphen, you will find these by holding the 123 at the bottom left of your keyboard. This will open a keyboard of numbers, punctuation marks, and special characters.
